Hi.

When I try to import settings into a GPO from a backed up
GPO the GPMC crashes. I have tried to do this, with the
same result, from a XP client and on a DC (Windows Server
2003).
I allso get the same result when performing this
procedure thrue a script (ImportGPO.wsf).

This is what I get in the Event Log:

Jon,

Can you creatre a gpmgmt.log and send it.

Create the gpmgmt.log

1. Open the Registry Editor. Start > Run > type: regedit
2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTEWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
create a new key, name it Diagnostics.
3. Under Diagnostics key create a new DWORD Value, name the dword value
gpmgmttracelevel.
4. Right click on gpmgmttracelevel deword and select Modify.
5. Assign Value Data = 2, base:Hexadecimal.

Close the Registry Editor.

If the GPMC is open close it and re-open.

Try to import the GPO again to caputure the data in the log.

The log can be found at:
%temp%\gpmgmt.log

Please zip the log and send it.

Thanks,

Joe G. [MSFT]

GPMC needs to run on Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 1 (or later) PLUS the Microsoft .NET Framework PLUS hotfix Q326469.
Either or both of those latter items might be your issue.

I hope this helps.

Best,
