Dear All

I have need to disable external usb based storage devices, towards this I
made a GPO after refering article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555324
and applied the same to a specific set of computers in a OU. I find it
works fine.

However when the PCs gets rebooted i noticed the PC can sense the external
usb based storage devices. Which means the policy is not working. However
in the same policy I have someother settings like hide mycomputers etc,
which works fine.

In order to understand I log on to the PC as local admin, and checked the
registry where I find Start key of USBSTOR was set to 3. I manually changed
it to 4 and inserted a pendrive it never sensed the same. After few restart
I noticed the pendrive is again sensing. I checked the same registry entry
and I was surprise to see that the entry 4 which I made was automatically
reversed to 3.

I'm using Windows XP professional OS

Would appreciate your help on this.

Hi guys

Not to worry, I got a fix for my problem.

I noticed this happens due to the plug and play device. When the device
plugs in it automatically changes the registry settings to 3. Hence we
edited the existing GPO and added the usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf to the
file system and given everyone Deny access.

This solves the problem

Thanks & Regards
