Hi,
I would like to disable Netbios over TCP/IP using Group Policy. Is this
possible?
Because the registry key is dynamic generated and different to every NIC,
you only can use a script to manipulate it.
computer startup script in combination with netsh.exe or a WMI/VB script,
that changes the setting on "local area connection".

Hello,
I would like to disable Netbios over TCP/IP using Group Policy. Is
this possible?
If not through a GP, is there another way to do it? Note, we do not
use DHCP.
My client is Windows XP SP2 and it is in a Windows Server 2003 domain
in 2003 mode.
Thanks
Angelo
I suggest you stop using static IP addresses and install DHCP on your
server; you can control this there. I can't think of any reason in this day
and age why one wouldn't use DHCP, honestly...

DHCP "reservations" usually meet the requirement for a "predicatable" IP
address plus add the management flexability in making changes and much
easier than scripting or NETSH. Guess there must be some other reason that
mandate static assignments for your customer.

Wait, you mean there is a tool that can dynamically assign IP address? No
way! :) Unfortunately my client requires fixed IPs but if I had it my way
I
would vote for DHCP as well.

I would switch to DHCP.

If you won't, see tip 8271 ยป How can I retrieve, or set, the NetBIOS over TCP/IP setting for an interface?
