Administrator in Users, Administrators in Groups - Please Clarify

In Windows XP, under "Local Users and Groups" do I need both
Administrator in Users AND Administrators (note the plural) in Groups?
It seems that Administrators is needlessly redundant, but I am
reluctant to remove it with my limited understanding of why it exists
in the first place.

Anybody that can clarify, please respond! Thanks.

local administrator is a user and has full control of the system

administrators is a group, so you can create a user, i.e. John Smith
and add him to the administrators group, so he too can have the same
level of control as the administrator user, but with his own account
