I am trying to remove adm files from the sysvol folder in a Windows 2003
domain enviroment, but it is not working.
I have applied GPO`s, which are listed in the 816662 KB article, to the user
which will edit GPO and to the workstation which he uses.
All adm files resides in windows\inf folder (it`s a Windows XP SP2 PC). But
when he opens GPO with GPMC, "Administrative Templates" are empty - GPMC
likely is not uses local adm files, which are on the administrative
workstation.
If I add adm files manualy, they goes to Sysvol folder again. And I can`t
understant why? As I mentioned before, "Turn Off Automatic Updates of ADM
Files" and "Always Use Local ADM Files for Group Policy Editor" GPOs are
enabled.
What I did wrong?
Maybe I should applyy these GPO to the domain controllers?

Thanks for your help.

As far as I understand it, that policy,"Always Use Local ADM Files for Group
Policy Editor", only works if you are editing the GPOs from Server 2003
itself. You can confirm this by looking at the explain text on that
policy--it says 2003 is the minimum version supported. That means that XP
just ignores the policy and goes looking for the ADMs in SYSVOL as normal.
Kind of stupid really, but they didn't back-port this policy to SP2. This
means that if you really want to use this feature, you have to do all of
your GP editing from a 2003 machine.
